Whenever you hear the word Chiropractor you immediately think of adults who have back problems or neck problems but you would not normally associate a Chiropractor with kids. The truth of the matter is that children can also benefit greatly from Pediatric Chiropractic care as well and more and more parents are starting to see the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment for not only themselves but for their kids too.
Benefits of a Pediatric Chiropractic Adjustment for Kids
It’s only natural for parents to seek alternative health care for kids that are prone to illnesses or to simply improve the overall health of their children. And as pediatric chiropractic care becomes more readily available and covered under more insurance plans, parents are now bringing their children in for a chiropractic adjustment that can have many benefits on their bodies and overall health. Some of the benefits of an adjustment for kids includes:
– Promotes overall relaxation in joints and muscles
– Builds flexibility which is especially important for kids who are always on the run
– Pain Reduction whether from a sports injury or accidents (which all kids are prone to!)
– Improved Recovery Times for Illness or other Medical Issues
– Improved nutrient supply to the joints and cartilage
– Improved Circulation
– Improved Immune System Function
Regarding the last point of improved immune system function, studies have been done to show that regular visits to a chiropractor and regular chiropractic adjustments have actually improved the immune systems in children (and adults) and have helped them recover from illnesses at faster rate than kids who do not regularly see a chiropractor.
A chiropractor is able to correct spinal abnormalities called vertebral subluxations. These subluxations interfere with the functioning of the nervous system by placing pressure on the nerves. If the nervous system is not functioning as it should, it results in the breakdown of the immune system. This can lead to the body becoming more susceptible to illness and viruses.
There have been some really amazing studies done on the benefit of pediatric chiropractic care in children with Autism as well, with benefits seen in many aspects of an autistic child’s life.
“Studies in clinical chiropractic involving 26 autistic children had shown that children could speak better, have better eye contact, bile and bladder function improve, less hyperactivity and aggressive behavior…,” Dr Lindsay McInnis, one of the team mates of the Chiropractic and Wellness Centres in charge of the East Legon Centre told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Five of those children, Dr McInnis said were placed in mainstream classes at the end of the nine month study and that their parents reported better improvement in their conditions.
“The problem is that there are neurological disorders – meaning that neurological impact from the brain to the rest of the body is interfered with. So what chiropractic does is to remove those interferences which is called sublixation so that the body can function the way it is supposed to.”
If you have young children you will probably know all too well the singing and dancing group on television called “The wiggles.” Anthony Field, better known as the “Blue Wiggle” has been with the Wiggles since they began many years ago and you can imagine how all of the touring, dancing and jumping around on TV and stage has affected his body. Anthony eventually looked into chiropractic care for his many back issues and long story short it dramatically changed his life. It changed him so much that he now also promotes pediatric chiropractic care for children as well.
“When my children were born, I took my wife and my babies straight to the chiropractor. They had their heads and necks aligned and that’s how much we totally trust chiropractic,” Field said. “It’s been a good thing for our children and us.”
Field’s satisfaction with chiropractic also moved him to share it with the rest of The Wiggles cast: Sam Moran (Yellow Wiggle), Murray Cook (Red Wiggle) and Jeff Fatt (Purple Wiggle). He even introduced it to other cast members such as “Dorothy the Dinosaur” and “Wags the Dog,” cast members who have to wear costumes all day that weigh heavy on their necks and backs.
KTVI Fox 2 in St Louis recently did a great story about how Dr. Amy Horn has been helping children in the St Louis area with pediatric chiropractic adjustments which she claims has helped improve immune system function and nervous system health in all of her patients. This is a great video that talks about the wonderful work Dr. Horn has been doing and also you’ll see some demonstrations on how an adjustment is done on child.
Kids Health is not just making sure you put the right foods on the table. It’s also about making sure you provide care for mind and body and chiropractic care is something all parents should consider as well. At the very least, check with your insurance providers and see what is actually covered as some pediatric chiropractic treatments may fall 100% under your plan.
